Question #1:
How do the Bruins get ready for the bantam draft every year? How many scouts do you have and how many games do they watch every year? - Len C

Great question. Having success in the bantam draft is crucial to having on ice success in the WHL. The Bruins have a scouting staff of approximately 20. They range from full time to very part time. The total number of games watched is in the thousands each year. Keep in mind that our scouts are not only watching players eligible for the next bantam draft, they are also looking at players at higher levels ranging from midget through to Junior A. The Bruins use a computer software system called Rinknet. Each scout files reports on players they have seen using a rating system on various hockey skills for each player. Player interviews are also done prior to the bantam draft. These are very i mportant as well as you can't always get a full read on a player just by watching him on ice.

Question #2:
Steven Hodges has played a few games for the Bruins is there any chance the Bruins call him up for the remainder of the season? - Ryan G

Hodges was the Bruins first pick in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft. As a 1994 born player he can play five games in the WHL prior to the end of his minor hockey team's season. He's played two games so far so he can play three more games before the end of his midget team's season. He's currently with the Fraser Valley Bruins Major Midget team. Their season will likely end towards the end of February, beginning of March. Once they are done he is eligible to join the Bruins full time.

Question #1:
Why is there no news when a player is injured of what the injury is, even though they are out of the line up for a time? - Jim P

Every Monday, each WHL team is required to file an injury report with the league, which the league then posts on their website. Click here for the link. Also, all Bruins injuries are listed on game day programs which can be found on our website on the morning of each game day.

Question #2:
Is Cole Penner playing anywhere right now? - Jerry L

The Bruins acquired Cole Penner from the Prince Albert Raiders in November for a 12th round bantam pick. Penner is playing with the Camrose Kodiacs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Of note: Penner was the fourth overall pick in the 2006 WHL bantam draft, one pick after the Bruins chose Ryan Howse.

Question #1:
I noticed you put the power play and penalty killing stats in your programs. Where can I find these online? I can't find them on the league website. - Randy J.

They are a little tricky to find. Start out by going to the League Standings page. On this page you will see a drop down menu on the left side of the page right under the list of the top three scorers in the league. You can use this to see a variety of stats. You can also check back on previous seasons by using the drop down menu on the right hand side of the page. - JB

Question #2:
What is the Bruins record for most goals in a season? Does Ryan Howse have a chance to break it this year? - Erin G

Oscar Moller set the Bruins record when he scored 39 goals during the 2007-08 season. Ryan has 28 goals in 38 games so far this season which if he can keep scoring at this pace would give him 53 goals this season. That's a tough pace to keep up but even if he slows down a bit, he should break the record. The Bruins record book can be found here.

Question #3:
I was looking at your "By the Number" page and noticed that it says that Colton Graf wore #12 in 2006-07. But it also says Graf wore #20 that year and that Jadon Potter and Stephane Lenoski both wore #12 that same season. Is that right? - Theo R

It is right and here is how it happened. Stephane Lenoski started the season wearing #12. He was traded to Spokane on December 28th for Matt McCue who chose to wear #2 which made #12 still available. When Colton Graf joined the team on January 9th he chose #20. A few weeks later in a home game vs Prince Albert, Graf got in a fight with Cody Vann and as a result his jersey was stained with a considerable amount of blood. League rules state that players cannot wear jerseys in this condition. The Bruins did not have an extra white #20 jersey so Graf finished that game wearing #12. When Jadon Potter was called up for three games in February he chose #12 and wore that number for the balance of his time with the Bruins. - JB
